The wind was blowing so hard last night that it kept me awake. I woke up this morning to see my poor Japanese Maple. I know it was dead, but it gave a nice structural element to the garden and it was supporting the deadly nightshade, which had taken and was growing. It's gone now; the tree, the nightshade is still attached and alive! Fortunately, the only other damage was inconsequential, toppled garden pots and decoration, little flag out of the ground, lantern knocked over-but not smashed. Still, I'm grateful that the only loss was the maple, which had to come down at some point. Now to find a new home for the deadly nightshade!
