Another interesting Night of Dreams

The dream started with old college friends and reading poetry. It then morphed into an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was a good plot too. I wasn't thinking of this show-so I'm not sure why it popped in my unconscious. I know that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) is in a new show...but I haven't seen it. And I think Buddy TV had a Facebook post about Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), but I didn't click the link to read more. But Giles played a big part in the dream. He was quite funny. He kept finding the dead bodies; Faith doing her evil thing. Then Willow was dead-but she came back to life, scaring everyone. She was a faerie. And this started by being a high school reunion. Weird, but quite interesting. I'd watch it as a TV show.

To Blog?

I just wrote on another blog about posting and not posting. I had a bunch of ideas for todays' post, and now, with just over a half hour left in the day and I still haven't posted anything. I guess I'll skip today and try again tomorrow. I did post on Amelia's blog-I'm trying to catch up on all of Cabot's fun. Go check out Ratkins Deux the World.

MRI

I just got back from having an MRI for my back. This is the third one I've had, second for my back, so I knew what to expect...but it's still not fun. It may not hurt you-but, boy does it toy with your mind. They gave me earplugs since it's so loud and I requested a blindfold. Believe me, you really don't want to see those tight quarters-even if you're not claustrophobic! On the board I went, and in the tube. It wasn't bad for the first set...then the second...then I started getting anxious. I started going through the alphabet naming different foods for each letter. Then my back started hurting-lying on it without moving does that. Then I started getting thirsty...and then had difficulty swallowing...Another test done-about 15 minutes to go. Ugh. Then I felt it might be hard to breathe. The coolness when I entered the machine was long gone. Then I started with the alphabet again-naming cities this go around while trying to swallow and breathe. Finally it was over. Thank God! Unfortunately, my back had seized up and I had difficulty raising my legs so the technician could remove the pillow from under them. I finally was able to get off the darn thing and had a drink of water. I wanted another MRI-but God I hate having them done! Now I'm home and ready for a stiff drink!

My Back

I'm having back issues again. Sigh. One wrong turn and leg weakness, inability to fully bend and turn, and periodic shooting pain are back. Hopefully insurance will cover the new MRI and we can see what's changed or what hasn't. I still don't want surgery. Hopefully, I'll get back to where I was soon!

Cover Girl Natureluxe

I discovered a new foundation makeup that I really like-Cover Girl Natureluxe. It covers well, but is really light. It also smells great-it may be the cucumber water. I hate having to find a good foundation-so I hope they keep making this! The only issue I have is that it only has SPF 10. Still, 10's better than nothing. If you're up for a new foundation give this one a try!

Sick Lilacs?

I'm worried about my lilac bushes. It started with one of the old ones near the house. In parts of it, the leaves seem to have fallen away and it looks sparse. It bloomed though. Now, the bush next to it is started to look the same way-horrible. I don't see leaves on the ground-but it seems as if they're dropping off. The next lilac in line looks fine-but is it only a matter of time? What's wrong? I need to contact my nursery guy and my gardening guru.

Disgusted

I heard about a horrific accident which happened yesterday afternoon. When I learned more about it I became even more disgusted-and a little heartsick as well. The countryside around here is beautiful and filled with many farms. The roads are generally 2 lanes and, although the speed limit is often 55 mph you have to be careful as there are often curves and slow moving farm vehicles. Consequently, there are many places where no passing is allowed. Yesterday, about 12:45 in the afternoon, a group of Amish farmers were on a farm excursion sponsored by Cornell. While not allowed to drive, the Amish are allowed to ride as passengers. These farmers were learning about new techniques in raising poultry and using greenhouses and going to several local farms. They were driving along and a large tractor with spray equipment was coming from the opposite direction. Behind the tractor was another vehicle. The driver, Steven Eldridge, (yes, I'm using his real name) decided to pass the slow moving tractor-even though it was a no passing zone on a curve. His vehicle hit the van head on, then sent the van careening UNDER the spreader where it became embedded! Five of the Amish farmers were dead on the scene, which, according to the sheriff was the worst he's ever seen in 40 years.  Ten others were injured, including the van and tractor driver, some critically. Steven Eldridge, the cause of the devastation, was uninjured. He's sitting in jail charged with 5 counts of criminally negligent homicide, various traffic violations, and driving while intoxicated. At 12:45 PM. I am truly disgusted.

Mystery Lovers' Kitchen

I love reading mysteries. There are several series I follow and new ones I want to read keep popping up. A continuing trend, at least in a lot of the cozy mysteries I read, is the addition of recipes to the book. In some instances the heroine is involved in the food industry in some manner (perhaps she owns a tea shop, a cheese shop, a restaurant, an ice cream shop...) so it makes sense that recipes are included. But even those who aren't in food service eat...and they share wonderful recipes too! I recently discovered a wonderful website where a great group of mystery authors blog and share...what else...recipes! It's a wonderful site: Mystery Lovers' Kitchen. The writing is deft, and often times funny, and the recipes are divine. Please, check it out-you'll be glad you did!

Tommy's New Job - Come Fly With Me - BBC One

I just saw this show for the first time. I died laughing. Mockumentaries are great. As with most sketch shows there are some misses, along with the hits. But the hits are super!

Groceries

Last night I should have stopped at the grocery store...but I just didn't want to go. I just needed to get some peanut butter and pumpkin for Sam and luncheon meat for lunches for work. I decided I'd go this morning, before I went to work. Since I just needed a couple items, I figured it'd be easy. I got up early enough, took Sam for his walk, then headed off to Wegman's. I knew I was in trouble when I pulled into the parking lot. It was full! I had to park a long ways away. What they heck-why is everyone here? Then it dawned on me. Although it was my Monday-my first day back at work-it was really Sunday. Uh oh. I walked in and went to the deli-where people were lined up waiting. I got my number-90-and immediately a worker called 90. I got my stuff and continued dodging people. It was so crowded I could barely get my cart through. But thankfully, Wegman's is run exceedingly well. I got in line with only one person ahead of me and was out of the crowded store lickity split. Thank you Wegman's -it could have been a long drawn out nightmare-but you made it a smooth trip.

Reunion

This year is the year of my 25th High School Reunion. I've never been to a reunion, and I've never had the desire to go. I still don't. I always thought it would be neat to see what people were up to, but that's what Facebook is for, right? I really don't "go out" and the thought of driving an hour away for a dinner isn't particularly appealing. But then I had a face to face meeting with an old high school friend with whom I've reconnected on Facebook. She's also part of the planning committee for the reunion. I told her I'd go...there is a witness. But I still didn't really want to go...and I still haven't RSVPd. Then last night another old high school friend said I needed to go, Ugh. Peer pressure. I need to get an outfit...it's going to be hot (the reunion's in August). I should just suck it up, commit to going and send in my money...but I don't really want to do it. What about you? Have you gone to any of your reunions?

Hot!

It's currently 91 and feels like 94. It's humid and walking outside feels like walking into an oven. Still, it's cooler than the places a lot of my friends live. All I can say is thank God for Central Air!

How?

How do they do that? I'm constantly amazed by technology. I've been watching True Blood and am now hooked. I just have season 1 (and I have 2 more episodes to go) so no spoilers, please. Anyway I "liked" the show on Facebook and was able to make a video. It's so cool. I allowed access to my page and then I was able to see my name, along with some of my friends, in the True Blood opening credits-well a portion of the credits. They showed a newspaper-with a missing friend (with picture). Eric called on me! Names and pictures of friends appeared throughout. How cool is that?!? I don't know how they do it, but it sure is neat! Want to check out my video?

7/7/11

Today would have been my Grandpa's 96th birthday. The past few days would have been party time a few decades ago, now they're just regular days. Still, I have the wonderful memories. Those were the days.

Waking

Why is it I can awake in the middle of the night and feel rested, then wake up again, before the alarm and feel good to go, but since it's too early I go back to sleep, but when the alarm goes off, I can barely drag myself out of bed. I got a late start again today so I didn't mow the lawn...again. Tomorrow is another day.

Independence Day!

Happy July 4th! I think back to all the wonderful holidays in my youth. The 4th of July was a biggie as my Grandpa's birthday was the 7th. The celebration would start the weekend before the 4th and continue through the weekend after the 7th. What fun we had. Today...not so much. I have to go to work today. So no parades, picnics, or parties for me. But even if I wasn't working-it would just be another day. Those of you that have the day off and are able to spend it celebrating with loved ones-have fun. Treasure these moments-enjoy them while you are able.

Fattening

Last night I made a snack I found in the frozen food section of the grocery store: Hot Pockets Snackers Loaded Potato Skin Bites with bacon, cheddar cheese, potatoes, and green onion inside a golden potato crust. As I was preheating the oven I looked at the bag. Under the description I saw an asterisk and the following proclamation" Not a low fat food". You think?!?! At any rate, I only made a couple (even though it said cook the whole bag) and they were absolutely delicious. If you see them, give them a try...but not if you're looking for a low fat treat!
