Unbelievable

I was leaving for work yesterday, got in the car, started it...and it died. Started it...and it died. Every time I took my foot off the gas it died. I managed to get it to my mechanic, who, thankfully, is right around the block. Literally. I called work. "I know you won't believe this, but..." I said I'd try to get in as soon as I could. So, 3 mechanics started working on my car-the car then refused to communicate with their computer. My mechanic said, "your car doesn't want to go back to work, it has post traumatic stress disorder". He thought it could be a certain sensor, so he called and they delivered the part...the very expensive part. However, the car still wouldn't go. So they took that out, put the old one back and called for a different kind of sensor. Guy delivered it, they put it in...still my car refused. "Bad news...we need to run more diagnostics, can't finish tonight." So home I went. I called work back, but expressed my worry that since I called less than an hour before my shift started I'd get a lost day-meaning no pay. Plus I felt bad as a friend from work volunteered to stay til I got there, since she thought I would just be a bit late. If I didn't make it in she'd have to stay until 11:30! So...they ran short staffed downstairs while she picked me up and then another co-worker volunteered to take me home. So that's what happened. I got there about 5:45 PM (instead of 3:15) and it wasn't too horrible. But most people said I should have stayed out longer. I agree, but my doctor didn't. Sigh.

I want you to get a new job, one that doesn't involved possibly getting clocked in the face!

Wish I could, but I'm kind of stuck. I didn't go in today. I went back too early, I need to call my doc and get more time off.

Don't rush back to work. Many times I have to send our injured workers back home because they try to come back to work to soon. No job is worth your health!

I didn't go in Thursday and Fridays and Saturdays are my regular days off. I tried calling my doctor to get more time-but he was off today. A crisis management person called me, then I called the treatment team leader (who had called the crisis guy) and got Sunday off and said I'd call my doc Monday-if he gives me problems I'm to call EAP and the crisis guy again-they may be able to help.
