It was a run for the roses. Not many fillies get the opportunity to run with the boys at the Kentucky Derby, and less than a handful have won, but Eight Belles ran her heart out. The big girl (17 hands) ran a great race finishing second before disaster struck. Somehow, this beautiful girl broke both front ankles and was euthanized on the track. It's hard to celebrate the great race run by Big Brown and I wish him the best, but Eight Belles is the horse I'll be thinking of tonight.
