I feel lousy and so wish I didn't have to go into work. At least today is my Friday.

Raise Awareness Wednesday - Free Kibble

Want an easy way to help shelter animals without spending money...and learning trivia besides? Check out Freekibble.com. There are actually two trivia sites-one for cats and one for dogs. Click on an answer and 10 pieces of kibble will be donated to animal shelters-and they'll donate it whether you get the answer right or wrong! If you look to the right of this blog you'll see a logo-so you can easily get to the site after reading my blog. Click everyday!

My Cherries?!?!?!

Last fall I planted 2 cherry trees-one sweet and one sour. They are little trees, my dad called them twigs, but this spring they were awash in blossoms. Hmm. I may get a bunch of cherries my first year. Yea. Sure enough I saw lots of cherries growing. When I looked a few days ago, there weren't as many cherries-but the sweet had about 5-10 and the sour had a couple. They looked close to being ripe-but not quite. This morning, after my walk with Sam, I led him to the cherry trees-only to find...NO CHERRIES! I looked again and found 2 shriveled ones on the sweet and 2 that look OK on the sour. What happened?!?! I guess I'll be buying cherries again this year. Sigh.

Intresting Dreams

I had more interesting dreams last night-better than TV! One had me and a romantic interest going to Sausalito. Don't ask me where Sausalito came from. In another I was a witch who had been in France among other places called in by some major witch who questioned me along with 2 others, one of whom was a friend from college. Then the old witch captured me along with the 2 others-but Christopher Reeve was there and he was going to free us. Told you, interesting. Another dream was all work-with 2 co-workers complaining about a third. All true things too. What did you dream about?

Over?

How can my weekend be over? I slept later than I wanted my first day off-but managed to get some stuff accomplished. Today I was up early and did a lot. But I still didn't get everything I wanted done. And now it's time to get back to work. Well, time for bath and bed and when I get up it's a work day; but still. Ugh.

Dentist

This morning I went to the dentist for my regular 6 month cleaning. No new problems. Yea! I had been having periodic toothaches-sore, then gone. The problem seems to be something we already know about. While I don't have a receding hairline, I do have receding gums. This means the root is close to the outside and can be exposed. When that happens-ache and sensitivity. There's a drastic solution-but we all agree it's not that bad-so no fillings all around. Yuck. She told me to switch to Sensodyne toothpaste and see how that works. I got some samples-so we'll see.

Raise Awareness Wednesday

I neglected to post yesterday-but happy belated Litha! Now that summer is officially here I want to remind everyone-Don't leave animals in cars on warm days. Notice I said warm. Warm becomes hot too quickly in a car. Leave the kids at home if you can't take them out of the car. Already 2 people in Buffalo have been charged by the SPCA for leaving dogs in hot vehicles. The poor dogs were showing signs of heatstroke. Don't leave your kids and if you see an animal in such a situation call 911!

Organized

I need to get organized. I'm wasting so much time looking for stuff....that I still can't find. I need to just make the time and do it-unfortunately, that's easier said than done. My list of things to do just gets longer and longer. It's hard keeping up with the basics, let alone trying to start new projects that don't "need" to get done right away. Sigh.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, whether your kids be human, furred, finned, feathered, or scaled. Thanks for all you do for us everyday. We may not say it-but we appreciate it. This picture was taken many, many years ago-that's me, my dad, and my grandpa on "Grandpa's Island" in Salamanca, NY. Thanks for all the great times and super adventures that bring such wonderful memories.

Limpoma

I took Sam to the vet this morning after finding a lump. I didn't think it was anything to worry about...but his age combined with the tumors Barrett suffered through...and the rats...made me a bit worried. I thought, "Cancer". When the tech came to check him out, she thought it was just a fatty lump...which is kind of what I thought as well. Fortunately, when the vet came in, she too agreed-just a fatty deposit, nothing to worry about. Thank goodness. So, I'll keep an eye on it-but everything should be fine.

Raise Awareness Wednesday - Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program

The thrill of the race, the bets, the big hats, the money. The thoroughbred race horse brings excitement to the track. These athletes are amazing...but what happens to these animals when they can no longer race, or they can no longer win? Horses are generally quite young when they race-and when they retire. What happens then? The disgusting truth is that some are slaughtered for meat. In fact, the great horse Ferdinand who won the Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup Classic and was Horse of the Year in 1987 was killed in a slaughterhouse in Japan. Is that any way to treat the animals that give their all for our enjoyment? No. Fortunately, there are many groups that work to find new homes for retired racehorses. Most of these horses, although no longer fit to race are perfect for other equine sports. Many a retired racehorse have gone on to winning second careers in eventing, dressage, polo, and more! There are several organizations that work to provide new homes for these athletes. The Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program is the first such group that actually exists on the grounds of a race track. It costs a LOT of money to provide for these horses, so please, consider donating to help these athletes. As their motto says-give horses a second chance to be winners!

43

I'm now 43 years old. Doesn't seem quite right. I'm closer to 40 than I am to 50...still in my early 40's even. I own my own home (well, I have a mortgage), have a job that pays decently and has benefits. I share my life with 12 (at the moment) kids...all with 4 legs and tails. I'm pretty much a homebody. I don't go out often, and am always most pleased when I return home. Does this make me a grown up?

Geographical Bookmarks

You asked...OK one person asked...but here's a picture of the bookmarks I made for a challenge. I didn't like my Rochester one-so I made 2 Buffalo. I'm not thrilled with the NY state one either, but...

Too Hot, Too Crowded, Too Worried

After 2 days of my car getting fixed I was ready to take Sam to Buffalo. We were going to visit my folks and then Mom and I, and Sam, were going to the Wine & Wags event to benefit the Erie County SPCA. I was soooo looking forward to the event. Sadly, I couldn't enjoy it. It was hot...too hot. We're talking 90's hot. There was a good variety of food, but I couldn't eat. It was also crowded...too crowded. We got there just as the event was to start and there was no parking. There were cars EVERYWHERE. There has to have been over 1,000 people there. And lots of dogs too. In addition to that, I was worried...too worried. On the way there the check gauge light came on and the temperature gauge soared to the orange. This was the issue that was supposedly just fixed. Now I was worried about getting home...on the throughway...with my dog. I was also worried about Sam. Was he too hot? Was he having fun? We only stayed about an hour. I'm so disappointed that I couldn't enjoy the event. I missed out on a lot of good food, wine, and beer. But Sam and I got home safely. The car is back waiting for the mechanic...again.

Vacation

I'm on vacation! Yea. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling well over the weekend-so couldn't really do much. Then today I was sans car-I worked around the house-of course there's still tons to do. I want to do so much. But, I guess sitting back and doing nothing is what vacation is really about. I think I'm going to take a quick nap, then stop at the liquor store and pick up something to eat. I have to drop the car back off tonight-but my mechanic should be done by 10 AM-I think tomorrow's the day for a trip to Marjim Manor and an Amish bakery.

Dimensional Rift

There is a dimensional rift in my house. Last night I was working in the craft room. I used my new blue stain. After using the purple I decided I wanted to redo the piece with the blue...but the blue stain was gone. It was on the table...then it was gone. I searched and searched. It shouldn't have left the room, heck, it shouldn't have left it's spot on the table. It was gone. After my bath I looked again. I found it...on the floor...on the opposite side of the table. Now some forks are missing...a lot of forks...I tell you, there's a dimensional rift in my house!

Artistic Frustration

I recently entered a challenge. I need to make 4 bookmarks with a travel theme. Easy, right? I thought it was. I had some concepts. Well, I'm not happy with my results. They're OK-but not fabulous. I want fabulous. After all, people will be receiving these and I want them happy. I'm fairly happy with one, and another one will work-I need to do it over, but I think it'll work. The other two... I'm artistically frustrated. Ugh.

Lupines

Lupines make me laugh. I just read my garden guru's latest blog, which is about lupines. I've always loved lupines...but mainly because of a certain Monty Python sketch. This winter I'll have to try Kevin's tips so I can finally have lupines in my own garden. "Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore..."

Raise Awareness Wednesday

Happy June. Did you know that June is Adopt a Cat Month? If you want to add a fuzzy feline (or not so fuzzy) to your home now is the perfect time.
