House History
Yesterday afternoon there was a knock at my front door. Oftentimes I'll ignore it, but I decided to answer it. Am I glad I did! There were two guys who said they were in from out of state. It turns out that their grandfather built my house! It was great talking with them. Their grandfather built this place from a catalog in, they think, 1921. It was always a 4 bedroom home (my mom always thought the master bedroom was the whole side of the house and later divided into 2) and the toilet room (which I figured was once a pantry) was always a toilet room. Pretty impressive for 1921, although, having the milk box in the toilet was a bit odd! The space under the sun room was a cistern and they had planned to knock the wall down too-but didn't. They said they saw how the previous owner had let things get rundown and were pleased I was making it so nice. I'm going to send them pictures and they'll do the same. It's so wonderful to discover the history of my house.
